URGENT: Contact Your State Senator NOW to Protect Our State Forests from logging!
Now is your key moment to act on behalf of Indiana’s state forests! For the first time ever, the Indiana Senate will consider whether the protection of wild nature should be a priority for our state forests.
Senate Bill 365, supported by a bipartisan group of state senators, would require the Division of Forestry to set 10% of each of our state forests aside from logging for wilderness recreation and wildlife habitat.
Despite the DNR blocking hearings on this bill, one of the bill’s co-authors, Sen. Brent Steele (R-Bedford), plans to introduce the bill as an amendment to another bill on the Senate floor this week, February 22 – 25, 2016.
Your voice in support of this amendment is critical for it to have a chance of passing the Senate. Please contact your Senator in the next 48 hours to urge him or her to support the “Old Forest” amendment by Sen. Steele to save 10% of each of our state forests from logging.
Not sure who your senator is? Find out here. If you have already called, THANK YOU.
The amendment vote will be taken sometime this week, perhaps as early as Tuesday Feb. 23. If you are interested in coming to the State House to meet with your legislator, I will be glad to assist you with a visit. However, calls and e-mails now are the most crucial action you can take. Please urge others to also contact their state Senator on this critical state forest protection legislation.
Thank you for your action!
